pain pedu or french toast plus plum marmalade


Ingredients for french toast
  • 4-5 slices of bread
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • a pinch cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil

Instructions
In a bowl, that should fit the slices of bread, beat the eggs.
Add milk, powdered sugar, vanilla and cinnamon.
Mix well the ingredients.
Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Dip the bread slices into the egg mixture for a few seconds, both sides, to soak.
Place the bread into the skillet and fry until turn golden brown both sides.
Serve the french toast with any syrup, marmalade, nutella, or just some powdered sugar.

Ingredients for plum marmalade
  • 2 pounds or 1 kg ripe plums pitted
  • 1 pound or 500 gr sugar
  • juice of 1 lemon

Instructions
Cut plums in halves.
Place them in a saucepan and cover them with sugar.
Cover and let it stay into the fridge overnight.
The next day cook over medium heat for 3-5’.
Skim if necessary.
Reduce the heat to low and cook until mixture starts thicken.
Marmalade is ready when it leaves a coat on the spoon.
If you use food thermometer, it should reach 220° F or 104° C.
Towards the end, add lemon juice and cook for 2-3’.
